August 2019 Message from the NCSM President, Mona Toncheff

The last month has been busy for mathematics leaders across the country.  Some schools are back in session, professional learning at the opening of school is ongoing, and the 2019-2020 school year is underway.

In July, NCSM hosted the annual Summer Leadership Academy in Madison, WI. Coaches and leaders came from across the continent and beyond for three days of meaningful and applicable learning focused on empowering mathematics leaders as agents of change for all learners. The highlights from the event can be found on Twitter

The NCSM board also met in July for its annual strategic planning board meeting. We had a productive meeting reviewing our strategic plans, celebrating the work that has already begun and making plans for this coming school year. The members of the board are looking forward to continuing learning this year and implementing Year 2 of the NCSM initiatives

As the 2019-2020 school year begins, NCSM is looking forward to learning with you throughout the year. We are excited to host two fall leadership seminars and the NCSM 53rd Annual conference March 30 – April 1, 2020 in Chicago, Illinois. Come join us as we CONNECT and COLLABORATE with mathematics leaders and COMMIT to pursuing our vision for teaching, learning, and boldly leading mathematics.

There are many exciting learning opportunities ahead as an NCSM member. Watch for information related to each event in upcoming eNews. In between events, you can also share your own learning or follow the learning of other mathematics leaders throughout the school year on twitter using #NCSMlead, #NCSMbold, or #NCSMcoach.

Together, we can grow the learning of every member. Helen Keller stated, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." This year, we can be bold leaders together!

From Mona Toncheff, NCSM president
